Yay! I can drink legally now. I don't actually want to, but I can. So there.

In other news, I found this:

I can hear the slash fans rejoicing from here.

Hah.

'What were you in your past lives?' at QuizGalaxy.com

This is actually quite spooky; when I was eleven and Catholic, I wanted to be a nun, like, more than ANYTHING. I'm sure it's a phase most catholic girls go through *shrug*.
How times have changed.

RE My Previous post: Thanks for the sound advice. It's giving me some options to mull over.

Anyway, at the moment I have a chest infection and 3 internals due. Yay me! So, no school tommorow and/or possibly the day after *sigh* and I'm missing Scholarship English and Art History. Curses!

*coughs*

But I have been watching this beyond wonderous DVD called "Night Watch". Which doesn't have anything to with Terry Prattchet's book of the same name, though the same painting is feature in both the film and the back of the hardcover book.

(Speaking of our beloved TP, I really wish he'd write more books about people OTHER than the Watch. I really think Samuel Vimes has gone as far as he can go...I mean, he's a Duke, a father, the Watch seems to be running smoothly...what more can they do with him?)

Back on topic, here is a rec for "Night Watch" or "nochnoy dozor" in it's native Russian.

Cut for squee and general nerd-ish-ness )

[music |Israel Kamakawiwo'ole- Somewhere over the Rainbow]

Had another fight with Mum. I know I don't mention them a lot here, prfering to spam you all with stories about how I made pie, but I try to keep things on a positive note.

It makes me wonder about whether to stay at home for next year or move out straight away. It seems a massive student loan would be the least of my problems;I'm scared I'm going to destroy the relationships with all my family members if I stay at home.

I think I'm seriously outgrowing this place; I'm tired of sleeping in the room next to my parents', I'm tired of their continous surveillence, I'm tired of sharing a house with my brother and sister, who don't look like they're going anywhere soon (But for different reasons; my brother because he can't afford it, my sister because she's eight)

What do I want? A flat with other people, who may be only marginally less annoying than my parents? A finacial burden? Independance? A taste of the "real" world?

What if I find I can't handle it? I certainly couldn't run home to Mum. I've got more pride than that. I know you can't "Eat pride" and all that, but I've got to have something.

I'd like a certain amount of privacy and independance; I don't want to be treated like the "fail-safe" babysitter or cleaner any more...by that I mean I'm always expected available, because it's a rare time that I go out in the evenings.
I know this is partly my fault, but I resent being taken for granted like that.

James, meanwhile gets to go out, do whatever, while I have to stay home and cook tea and then get yelled at because it came out wrong. And while I do understand that James has a job to do, so do I; I have to go school, get good marks, and take 3 scholarship subjects AS WELL AS doing normal homework. And internals. And soon (hopefully) get a Saturday Job, to save some money for Uni. My life's no less busy than his, but I'm at home a lot. so I get stuck with all the afore mentioned jobs.

/whine.

On a positive note, I have some new wool, I've finished my Mum's scarf and I have a new knitting book.

AN UPDATE! GASP! [May. 27th, 2006|03:01 pm]
[Tags|, , , , ]
[mood | accomplished]
[music |Aha-Take on Me]

Lots of stuff's happened since I last posted. I'll try and pick the interesting bits out.

1) Reading "The Merchant of Venice" in English. Here are my thoughts, so far:(Not meant to be taken seriously)

Antonio: I'm so gay.
Bassanio: I'm a bit of a whore, but nice enough.
Shylock: I'M A STEREOTYPE....no wait...I'M EVIL JEW! STFU ANTONIO!!
Antonio: I'm gay, and I love Bassanio
Salerio and Solanio: Word.
Gratiano: LOL!!!!STUFUS!!!LMAO!!!(Contained within are philosophical messages)
The Gobbos: We are HUMOUROUS.
Antonio: I love you Bassanio, Have some money.
Shylock: I'M A STEREOTYPE....no wait...I'M EVIL JEW! STFU ANTONIO!!
Portia: Don't like you, you, you or...
Bassanio: *Arrives*
Portia: *swoon*
Antonio: *In letter* Come back and save me Bassanio! I'm so gay it hurts!

2) Writing my CV for a new job...Sales assistant at Espirit. I desperately need the money, as there is a big wool sale coming up at knit world.

3) I <3 Scholarship English and Art History. Now, I have to kick the Dupe's ass into gear so we can do some scholarhsip history.

4) My 3 minute documentary is going to kill me...but I get to meet Sue Bradford....YAY!

[mood | contemplative]

A new series of Midsomer Murders is starting next week. This makes me happy, because there's nothing better than people getting killed in gruesome ways for obscure motives in sleeply little english villages to cap off your week. And no, I'm not being sarcastic.

This lead me to muse somewhat on English vs. American murder mysteries. In American ones, the "Detective" Character tends to use forensic technology, threats, violence or the souls of the departed to help them solve the crime. IMO It seems like the WAY the crime is solved is more important than WHY the crime was committed.

Yes, a generaliastion. But this seems to be the differences between the two types THAT ARE ON TV AT PRESENT.

Cut for semi coherent ramblings about "Murder Mysteries"

[mood | quixotic]
[music |Aha-Take on Me]

1) I have the most delicious easter eggs ever and I don't feel like chocolate.

2) I'm thinking of becoming a vegetarian...but not until after I leave home.

3)I need to finish knitting my jumper before Mum finishes hers. It's getting shameful.

I'm fucked off. Just found out that I don't get any tax back...at all. Cause the way I thought it was, you got money back if you were under 18 and were being paid youth wages, cause they wouldn't be chraging you adult tax...or so my Dad informed me.

But I don't. I thought I had at least $200 coming...more money to save for Uni text books. But the fuckers were taxing me correctly...so I was paying adult tax on slave labour wages.

Fuck you, Thorndon New World. FUCK YOU.

Even so, I wish I hadn't quit my job...I'm gonna be very poor for the next while and any chances of having a life have GONE.

(not that I can have one anyway, cause of the homeowrk e're getting, but it's nice to know that I could have one if I wanted to.)

So....

No, I'm not dead. Just been taking a break while I get the crazy amount of homework sorted, and of course working.

Ahhh, work. Handing in my two weeks'next friday, then I'm gone.

No more wrestling triffid lettuces in plastic bags (serioudly one left a small smybiont/parasite thingy on my checkout the other day. But luckily I squashed before it could crawl into my brain and turn me into a pod person.

No more having to smile and dumb customers.

No more watching the operator hump the checkout. Firstly: EWWWW!
Secondly: No one can love this job THAT much. Thirdly:EWWWWWWW!!!!

School's ok, too: LOVING Art History. Am wondering of should do Schol.Would be WAAAY cool. English is wicked awesome too. Ms. Horrocks says she'll let me do my LIT. Project on "The romantic relationships between women" Hah. More excuses for Mum to buy me lesbian themed books.

On the downsisde, I hate being a duty prefect.

So, Mims, how's Uni treating you? I miss our random convos. :(
How are the rest of ya getting on??

I might take a break from the computer, acutally. I may be spending too much time on this damn thing.

Awards Season [Feb. 6th, 2006|12:48 pm]
As it is award season, I have decided that I would do my own awards, as I am quite certain that the Oscars are dead predictable and dead boring. And I thought I'd share some thoughts on the political goings-on as well, so, well, not many of these are movies. DO NOT READ IF YOU ARE REMOTELY RIGHT-WING. Beware: This post is loooong.

[music |New Enya Cd]

Tommorow I'm off to Singapore for five days! Hoorah!

Hopefully to fufil my goal of getting rid of 75% of my black wardrobe...A tough goal, but I will peservere. New Zealanders wear faaaaaaaaaaar too much black, and I wish to show them the wonderful colours of the rainbow. In a manner of speaking. Ahem.

(Members of the COR movement are Peta Mattias, Trelise Cooper, Carly Harris.
Colours are the answer, people. COLOURS.)

And a pair of jeans that doesn't hang offmy arse. I mean really. How big do they think kiwi thighs ARE?

Boy, did that sound shallow.

Anyway, will be back on Monday, and hope to tell you of what's happened :)

Miriam: have fun in Auckland

Ash: Luv ya, babe, and I'll see if I can find something stylish there for your b'day.

Tui: Get better soon and biig hugs

To all other wonderful people on my f-list: Have fun.

[mood | cranky]

There is a strange girl creeping around my house. I assume she's the fraternal unit's girlfriend...I overheard my brother talking to his friend about some one staying for "four days."

Conclusion: My brother and his f**k buddy are going to make me feel very uncomfortable, thus exiling me from my own house for FOUR DAYS!!!

Worst thing is, he did even discuss this with me. It's MY HOUSE TOO GODDAMIT!!!He should at least have the manners to say,
"Nik, this is x. She's staying over for a few days."

Giving me time at LEAST to put a load of all my dirty washing (*CoughknickersCough*)
in the machine, saving us all from embarassment.

Wanker.
